about dvam

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the crime of domestic violence and promote its prevention through use of special events and public education about resources available. Each year in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Guardian Angel Community Services hosts a series of events to help bring awareness to the crime of domestic violence and to assure that survivors know their rights and are not forgotten.

Domestic Violence often goes unreported. Many victims never tell anyone about the abuse that they endure. Frequently victims believe that the violence perpetrated against them was their fault. They may experience feelings of shame, guilt, fear and isolation.  Domestic Violence is never the fault of the victim.

The Groundwork Domestic Violence Program is available to help survivors of domestic violence. Groundwork offers a 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling (adults & children), legal and medical advocacy, and community presentations.
